Akron Art Museum - Charles & Jane Lehner Auditorium
The Akron Art Museum expansion highlights the juxtaposition of the old with the new. Built in 1899 in the Italian Renaissance style, the old museum was the former downtown Akron post office. The new addition, designed by world renowned architects Wolf Prix and Helmut Swiczinsky of Coop Himmelb(l)au soars above the old building like a bird. It provides Akron with a new landmark and cultural hub. The auditorium, located in the lower level of the addition, is used for lectures, films, concerts and poetry readings.
