Our work at the GALA Hispanic Theatre
The historic Tivoli Theatre in Washington DC reopened its doors in January 2005 as a new home to the GALA Hispanic Theatre. Since its establishment in 1976, GALA has been promoting Hispanic culture through bilingual theater, dance, and poetry. The organization has moved between venues since its inception until recently, when fundraising efforts allowed GALA and Smith Group architects to complete restoration of the landmark theater in the Columbia Heights neighborhood. The resulting 250-seat performance space is housed beneath the large dome at Tivoli, a space that once served as a mezzanine in the original theater.
